Georgia Pre-K FAQs

We know there’s a lot of questions when deciding to enroll your child in Pre-K. Here are answers to our most asked questions. Need more? Check with your state for additional information.

How do I apply for Georgia Pre-K?

Georgia Pre-K registration is handled by individual providers, so registration dates and steps vary by location. Use the school finder above to locate a participating La Petite Academy, then contact the school to ask about openings, registration timing, waiting lists, and required documents. Families can also review the official Georgia DECAL enrollment guide and Georgia Pre-K registration forms. Your selected school can confirm which forms are required and where to submit them.

Who is eligible for free Georgia Pre-K?

Georgia's free Pre-Kindergarten Program is available to children who live in Georgia and are 4 years old on or before September 1 of the school year they plan to attend. Children who did not attend Georgia's Pre-K as 4-year-olds may be eligible to enroll as 5-year-olds, but policies for kindergarten-eligible children vary by provider. Eligibility is not based on family income. Families must provide proof of age and Georgia residency when registering. After enrollment, families must submit Georgia Form 3300 for health screening within 90 days and Georgia Form 3231 for immunization, or a permitted exemption, within 30 days. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee space at a specific school.

Is Georgia Pre-K free?

Yes. Georgia's Pre-K Program is funded by the Georgia Lottery for Education and is offered at no cost to eligible children, regardless of family income. Providers cannot charge a registration fee or fees for services during the 6.5-hour instructional day. Optional before- or after-program child care and other services outside the funded day may require an additional fee. Contact the participating school for its current fee schedule.

Does La Petite Academy offer Georgia Pre-K?

Yes. Participating La Petite Academy schools in Georgia offer Georgia Pre-K. Use the school finder above or contact your local school to confirm program availability, registration timing, and current space.

What are the Georgia Pre-K program hours, and is extended care available?

Georgia's Pre-K Program provides a 6.5-hour instructional day, five days per week, for 180 instructional days each year. Exact start and end times vary by provider. Participating La Petite Academy schools may offer before- and after-program child care for an additional fee. Contact the school for its current schedule and care options.

What does my child learn in Georgia Pre-K?

Georgia Pre-K providers must use a DECAL-approved curriculum aligned with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS). Our schools offer a proprietary, research-based curriculum focused on personalized learning and kindergarten readiness.

What are the program hours?

Program hours do vary, but they are typically 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (with some exceptions)

Please note: We cannot guarantee Georgia Pre-K Program eligibility. We cannot guarantee spaces are available. We cannot guarantee kindergarten readiness outcomes. Cannot guarantee that every school will run a Georgia Pre-K Program. There is a fee for before and after care.
