Meet Our La Petite Academy Staff – Ms. Caytlyn, Preschool Teacher

Meet Ms. Caytlyn, preschool teacher at La Petite Academy in Rocklin, CA! She has an associate’s degree in child development and is going to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in child development this fall. Read our Q&A with her to learn about why she chose this career, what is rewarding about it and what her favorite accomplishment has been!

Why did you choose a career in early childhood education?

I was initially going to do nursing, and I was going to be a pediatric nurse. I did a couple internships in that, and I always wanted to be in a career that helps children, but it was really hard for me to see kids that way. I really wanted to help children and interact with them, so that’s why I went down the path of teaching.

How is it rewarding to work with the preschoolers each day?

I’m actually surprised by how much they’re able to grasp! When I first started, I didn’t realize how much they would learn. Knowing I’m the one that helps them learn so many things, it’s just rewarding for me to know I contributed to that.

What are some of the benefits of early education programs for little ones?

It’s beneficial because the children get to surround themselves with things that they wouldn’t be able to at home, even if the parents were to teach them at home. It’s such a different environment, learning with their friends.

Can you share your favorite accomplishment since working here at La Petite Academy?

When I came into the preschool class last September, there were two lead teachers in the preschool room so I was an extra teacher, and the students were of course in love with those teachers. It was really important for me to get to know each of them individually. Because I work so hard on building relationships with the kids, the parents have seen that. I’m just proud to know that I was able to do that.

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?

When I was in elementary school I absolutely loved reading! I would say growing up I was more into science; I really love science.

If your students had to describe you in one word, what would it be?

I think “silly” – I definitely am really energetic, especially with the kids. I want them to know learning is fun, so I’ll do some crazy things. I love seeing them laugh.

This is the first early education center you’ve worked at – what has it been like starting off your career here at La Petite Academy?

I was scared to come into this field at first. When I started here in 2016 I was shy with everything, and now I’m confident that this is what I want to do, and it’s because of this environment. I’m really happy that I chose this school to be a part of. It’s a good environment to be in.
