How is working with preschoolers different than working with older students?

It is so amazing. They are so honest! My three year olds, they don’t care what they say! I love it.

What about teaching this age group is rewarding to you?

One thing about early childhood education is that it allows me to make an effective change at such a young age in a child’s life. It allows me to make an impression at that age. Coming from teaching elementary students, I’ve seen some kids that have never been to a program like La Petite Academy’s. This program is so beneficial to a child at two years old, three years old, four years old. We’re not just sitting in a classroom watching TV. We’re teaching these kids how to be young individuals.

What does your typical morning look like?

We start with a good morning song. Whenever someone gets to the classroom, we sing “Good morning, good morning to you.” They sing until the last child comes into the room. That just gets everyone so pumped! Then breakfast comes. We sit down, we eat breakfast, then we go into Circle Time. At Circle Time we go over the weather, the days of the week. After Circle time we have morning group time using the new curriculum that allows us to do a different activity every day. I really like it. Then we go into individual centers. Then we go into story time. Then it’s time to go outside and have some fun! Then we come back in, wash our hands and get ready for lunch. Then after lunch we get ready for nap time.

How do you conduct mealtime in your classroom?

We all eat together. We sit down together and I serve them the meal. I set the food out and I ask them about it. We go over the food before we serve the food so they know what we’re going to eat. I try to make everything a learning experience.

Why is a strong early education program so important for young kids?

I feel like if we want to have future global leaders, we have to build a firm foundation. And that foundation starts with our infants! That’s what La Petite Academy is all about. This program they have here, it’s teaching these children to thrive. It’s pushing them. It’s educating them. It’s showing them skills that will go beyond their time La Petite Academy.

If your students could describe you in one word, what do you think it would be?

Silly!
