The Toddler Curriculum

How do we know that your child is ready for certain challenges? Our toddler teachers are trained to recognize key signs in your toddler's behavior. For example, her teacher might notice her exhibiting the building blocks toward learning to walk, or see that she is responding to an increased set of vocabulary. Our Toddler Program allows us to cue in on these type of keys to continually:

  • improve gross and fine motor skills
  • develop receptive and expressive language
  • help her understand relationships with herself, her peers and her loved ones
  • nourish her curiosity and enjoyment of activities and objects

La Petite Academy has invested in a wealth of resources so our toddler teachers can have plenty of guidance when they create their daily toddler lesson plans. Teachers can turn to Active Learning for One's, for hundreds of sample activities organized by learning domain and month of age. Another excellent resource is Your Child at Play, One to Two Years, which offers ideas on different play scenarios that will stimulate toddler development within the classroom's learning environment.

Ultimately, experience itself is a great resource. Academy toddler teachers have worked with hundreds of toddlers - so they have a wealth of experience in seeing what is appealing, exciting and educational for your toddler.

Play Leads to Learning

Experience has shown us that your child will jump right into the toddler classroom life because she'll spend a lot of time doing what all children love - playing. Play provides immeasurable learning opportunities. And the structured play of our toddler curriculum gives toddler teachers many ways to infuse skill building among all different developmental domains: physical, language, socio-emotional and cognitive. Even though at this young age toddlers do not truly play with their peers - they'll play next to other children, but not with them - our teachers lay a foundation for your toddler to eventually learn to play interactively with others.

By constantly listening, talking, describing objects and actions, and expanding your toddler's ever-growing vocabulary, your child's teachers will expose her to critical language-building skills. They will also help your child develop self-control while recognizing a healthy expression of growing self-identity. Most importantly, toddler teachers interact with toddlers in a warm, enthusiastic, supportive, respectful manner.
