The Premier Infant Curriculum

Infant Development at La Petite Academy

La Petite Academy uses today's premier curriculum for infants, Partners In Parenting Education (P.I.P.E.). P.I.P.E. is designed to foster positive relationships and aid in infant development and growth during the important first year of life.

The P.I.P.E. Curriculum is based on the theory that play and meaningful interaction positively impact infant development, and emphasizes the importance of caregivers forging positive bonds with the infants in their care.

Infant Curriculum Units

The infant curriculum is separated into three comprehensive units.

Listen, Listen, Listen covers the developmental areas of socio-emotional communication, regulation of routines and daily care, as well as touches on the importance of treating each infant as an individual.

Love Is Layers of Sharing is all about the extreme importance of bonding and attachment and relationship-building with both the teacher and baby.

Playing Is Learning covers the key concept of play as an educational tool and the need for a stable and emotionally caring environment that enhances overall growth and development. Each unit has hundreds of suggested activities that teachers tailor to the particular children and age ranges. The units are designed around topics of development that our infant teachers introduce at appropriate times, based on the developmental needs of the infants in their classrooms.

For example, one topic of infant development focuses on different cognitive areas. To encourage memory development, an infant teacher might use your infant's favorite toy to play a simple game of Hide and Seek - your infant sees that the teacher hides the toy under a blanket, and then tries to point or grab it. Another topic of infant development focuses on the senses. To build auditory skills, the infant teacher will make use of three different-sounding toys, out of the infant's sight, to help her practice finding the sounds.
