Better Curriculum, Better Learning
The Early Childhood Education field is rapidly changing as more and more is understood about how children learn. We are committed to constantly updating our programs to keep pace with the ever-changing experiences your child will have in kindergarten.
Here, La Petite Academy leads the industry. Each curriculum is created by our own Education Department experts, who bring decades of experience in formal graduate work, teaching and developing curriculum. In addition, we consult outside experts in early childhood education and published material from nationally recognized sources, including:
- Head Start
- Superintendents from school systems across the country
- The US Department of Education
- Educators at Red-E-Set Grow
- The Learning Accomplishment Profile developed by the Chapel Hill Training Outreach
Learning Objectives
Our curricula are based on age-appropriate learning objectives, which are used to create themes and lesson plans. Each curriculum offers teachers hundreds of activities to choose from, each of which is tied to a specific learning objective.
Your child will not only make the developmental progress necessary for a successful transition to kindergarten, she'll love the activities that get her there.
Age-Appropriate Curricula
Each of our programs has its own curriculum designed to keep your child on the right pace for her development, as well as prepare her for the next stage.
Our Infant Program uses today's premier curriculum for infants, Partners In Parenting Education (P.I.P.E.).
P.I.P.E. is designed to foster positive relationships and aid in the growth and development of infants during the important first year of life.
Our Toddler Program was painstakingly designed to build fine and gross motor skills, receptive and expressive language, relations with self, peers and adults, and intellectual curiosity.
Our Two's Program features 26 two-week units, each with its own interesting theme - such as Please and Thank you, Let's Go to the Zoo, and Farm and City - to keep your child engaged in a progression of learning throughout the year. Lesson plans and activities are based on each child's progression toward developmental milestones.
The Early Preschool (EPS) and Preschool curricula took more than two years to create. Each features more than 70 Learning Objectives and includes 26 themed units. EPS gives teachers over 100 different learning activities to choose from, while the Preschool curriculum offers over 200. Each activity is tied to specific Learning Objectives, which promote development of language and communication, cognitive skills, creativity, physical ability, and personal and social skills.
Our Pre-Kindergarten Program is made up of two curricula: Scholastic's Building Language for Literacy curriculum, along with a Pre-K curriculum authored by the La Petite Academy Education Department, which focuses on writing, math, science and social development. The combination ensures your child will cover all the necessary readiness standards to successfully and confidently enter kindergarten in the fall.
The Kids of Character Program is incorporated into Early Preschool, Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten and School Age curricula. This unique program offers fun and meaningful ways for your child to develop positive character traits, which will lead to a lifetime of success. The program has over 250 character development activities and areas of focus. A different character trait is reviewed each month of the school year:
- Teamwork
- Citizenship
- Problem solving
- Kindness
- Honesty
- Respect
- Self-discipline
- Responsibility
- Perseverance
