Pre-Kindergarten Daycare (4–5 years)
Preparing for Kindergarten
Our Pre-Kindergarten child care program is specifically designed to meet the learning needs of four and five year old children. It’s the final step in our three-year Journey Program, which includes our Early Preschool and Preschool Programs.
Especially in the final year, the goal is to introduce activities and experiences that will ensure your child will make a successful transition to Kindergarten.
How We Achieve It
Our Pre-Kindergarten Program is made up of two courses of study: Scholastic’s Building Language for Literacy Program and our theme-based Pre-K Curriculum authored by the La Petite Academy team of educational experts. The combined child care curricula focus on writing, math, science and social development. Developing critical-thinking skills and stimulating intellectual curiosity ensure your child will successfully and confidently enter Kindergarten in the fall. We make sure that every child receives the attention he or she needs to confidently tackle these learning opportunities by abiding by state-mandated teacher-to-student ratios.
Our warm and educationally focused classrooms feature seven learning centers and are equipped with inviting, developmentally appropriate learning materials. For example, the literacy and language center features our Pre-K Word Wall, which introduces new sight words to children to expand their vocabulary and writing skills in a fun and interactive way. Your Pre-K student will develop a love of learning as he or she explores concepts such as gravity, size and dimension while playing with blocks and manipulatives in our Construction and Design learning center. The math and manipulatives center includes materials such as number lines and sorting and counting objects, as well as teacher-facilitated activities that involve counting, graphing, patterning and charting.
Students also learn important social skills in our literature-based Kids of Character Program.
Parents are given assessment updates throughout the year. These include weekly written communications about your child’s learning, ongoing portfolio collections, quarterly assessment reports and family/teacher conferences twice a year.
